Active travel from the Czech and Slovak market: how MOTION is redefining club holidays

Not every holiday is about slowing down. For a growing number of travellers, time away means staying active, trying new things and experiencing a destination beyond the hotel.

This demand has inspired colleagues from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to develop a concept that brings movement, discovery and local experiences together in a structured, yet flexible way: MOTION Club

Launched in October 2023, the concept is designed for adults and teenagers aged 13+ and combines premium hotel stays with a carefully curated programme of activities, social interaction and destination-focused experiences.

A structured approach to active travel

At the heart of MOTION is a clear programme built around four pillars:

  • Sport including yoga, Pilates, running, paddleboarding, tennis or beach volleyball
  • Relax offering space for recovery through wellness and lighter activities
  • Discovery encouraging guests to explore the destination beyond the resort
  • Gourmet connecting travel with local food, tastings and culinary workshops

This structure gives guests orientation without limiting their flexibility. They can join activities throughout the day or shape their stay entirely on their own terms.

From activity to experience

What defines the concept is not just the range of sports, but the way it connects physical activity with the destination itself. Guests are encouraged to step outside the hotel environment through guided nature walks, quad or scooter excursions and hands-on workshops.

Local experiences play a central role. In Vietnam, for example, guests take part in cooking classes to prepare traditional dishes with local chefs. In Oman, workshops introduce them to the cultural significance of coconuts and traditional preparation methods.

These moments turn activities into something more meaningful: a way to engage with the place rather than simply stay in it.

Creating connection on site

A distinctive feature of MOTION is the strong role of on-site teams. Dedicated Czech-speaking animators actively engage with guests, encourage participation and create a sense of shared experience throughout the week.

This human interaction is what makes the programme feel alive. It transforms a set of activities into a cohesive holiday experience and highlights how curated offers and personal interaction go hand in hand.

Scaling across destinations

The concept is already present across a portfolio of carefully selected hotels. For summer 2026, 13 hotels in destinations including Greece, Spain, Türkiye, Egypt, Italy and Cape Verde are part of the programme.

For winter 2026/2027, the concept expands further to destinations such as Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

Each hotel is selected based on how well it supports the programme, from infrastructure and location to the ability to deliver the full experience in close collaboration with local partners.

Driven by guest feedback

Since its launch, guest feedback has been consistently positive. Travellers particularly value the combination of activity, relaxation and authentic local experiences, as well as the ease of communication enabled by Czech-speaking teams.

The concept continues to evolve. One upcoming step is a dedicated mobile app that will allow guests to access daily programmes, activities and updates in real time, making the overall experience more seamless and personalised.

A clear idea behind the concept

For Kristýna Donátová, Product Owner Animation & Leisure at DERTOUR Czech Republic, the concept responds to a simple insight:

“MOTION was created with a simple intention: to transform the traditional holiday into a more active, balanced and meaningful experience. By combining movement, relaxation and authentic local moments, we offer guests a curated selection of activities they can engage with entirely at their own pace. The philosophy is simple: you don’t have to do anything, but you always can. Since the launch, the concept has been received extremely positively, with a growing number of guests returning and embracing this new way of spending their holiday. Our goal is to keep inspiring travellers to truly experience their time away and return home refreshed and energised.”

Bringing variety into one portfolio

Concepts like MOTION show how different travel needs can be translated into clearly defined offers within the wider DERTOUR Group portfolio. They respond to a specific type of traveller, those who want to stay active and engaged, while remaining flexible and easy to access.

At the same time, they illustrate how ideas developed in one market can scale across destinations and contribute to a broader offering that brings together different types of holidays in a consistent and structured way.
