Portfolio optimisation at DERTOUR Group Hotel Division

Focus on lifestyle brand ananea in Zanzibar. Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza to leave portfolio as of May 2026.

The DERTOUR Group Hotel Division is realigning its offering in Zanzibar as part of a portfolio optimization. Looking ahead, attention will shift to the lifestyle brand ananea, which has thrived in Zanzibar. Its contemporary ‘Slow Glamour’ approach aligns perfectly with the island’s unique personality. The Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza, on the other hand, will leave the portfolio on 30 April 2026.

“Zanzibar is and remains an appealing destination for us,” explains Ingo Burmester, CEO of the DERTOUR Group Hotel Division. “We have seen extremely positive booking numbers with ananea in Zanzibar and see great potential here. However, bookings at the Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza have not developed as positively as expected. We intend to prioritize the ananea brand in Zanzibar moving forward. With its international profile and a brand concept rooted in ‘Slow Glamour’, it is well positioned for this beach destination and provides substantial value to our guests.”

The Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza opened on 1 November 2024 as the first club operator in Zanzibar. Nine months later, the ananea Diamonds Mapenzi followed, opening on 1 August 2025 and has since seen strong demand. The decision to end the partnership at the Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza was taken jointly with the local partners and is part of a clear, forward-looking strategy for the premium club brand Aldiana. Burmester commented: “Together with our partners, we have decided to end the collaboration at the Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza.

Our current focus is on successfully developing Aldiana further, initially with a stronger emphasis on the Mediterranean region – particularly in Türkiye, Greece, Spain, Italy, Tunisia and Egypt. In these destinations, we are seeing particularly strong demand from German-speaking markets. At the same time, we also intend to pursue selected opportunities in long-haul markets.”

Rebooking options

Guests who have already booked a stay at the Aldiana Club Zanzibar Kwanza from 1 May 2026 onwards can flexibly rebook their stay at the ananea Diamonds Mapenzi. Furthermore, guests have the option to rebook another Aldiana Club during the same period or cancel their bookings free of charge. All affected guests will be informed immediately and given personalized support. “We regret the necessary changes and thank our guests for their cooperation,” said Burmester. “At the same time, we are confident that we can offer attractive alternatives – whether in Zanzibar or at one of our other popular Aldiana Club hotels.” Travel agency partners will continue to receive their commission even in the event of a cancellation.
